When I paint or work on a project, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, sometimes it doesn't turn out the way I wanted it to. The image below is exactly what happened to this painting. At first I thought, I was making something great until I did a stroke or a splash and then soon I'm finding myself trying to fix a "destroyed" painting or artwork.
And I didn't want to look at it. I left it in my attic because I was so frustrated with how it turned out. If only there's a magic undo button in real life. So, like I said, I left this painting out to dry and leave it be for two weeks in my attic. That's how much I hated it.
Until one day, I decided instead of throwing it out or completely destroying it, I thought I'd give it another shot. So, I took it out of the attic and laid out a new acrylic paint layer and tried my best to fix it.
I have to admit, at first I thought it was a good idea... Even my color selection was pretty weird. But when I finally did it. Same thing happened again and a stroke led to another and I once again kept trying to fix the mistake that I did. And I ended up with this catastrophe.
It's not working, I thought to myself. And I became even more frustrated and even had my self doubts again.
But this time, instead of locking it away in my attic, I've decided to keep it where I can see it. And most of the nights, I would just look at it and think... What if I just paint it black?
I didn't want to look at it anymore and I've just had it. I wasn't feeling it or I wasn't in the right mind space to work on an artwork let alone fix an artwork. So, I decided to paint it all black.
But then I had a thought, I'm not going to cover up all the mistake. I'm just going to cover up some of it because I wanted to be reminded that not all mistakes are ugly.
Sometimes, there are also beauty in mistakes. We just have to change our perspective and learn from them in order to grow.
I'm happier and contented with this outcome. And I am happy I made that mistake and chose to continue---To thrive and not give up.
